So after making my last post about how I basically wear leggings and sweaters all winter, I decided maybe I’ll make a fall/winter challenge for myself.

I don’t know about you, but when the temperature drops, I tend to fall (ha!) in to my biggest fashion ruts. Its hard to want to be creative with your clothes when its so freaking cold out! There are so many cute fall/winter trends out there though, so I think this season I am going to try and challenge myself to branch out a little more and make a little more of an effort when it comes to my cold weather style.

An easy place to start (for me at least), is by incorporating good coats and jackets in to my outfits! A good jacket can pull an outfit together, and make it look like you made an effort, when really you are comfy cozy underneath. I’m a firm believer in “fake it till you make it” when it comes to most things in my life, and fashion is no exception.

Another, less easy thing that I think I might try to start doing is replacing my leggings with tights. I was talking with my old roommate about what we tend to gravitate towards in the winters, and she was saying that she wears more dresses in the winter than any other time of the year! She says that they make layering so much easier (less clothes for the same result), and that she likes that tights offer her the ability to wear a wider variety of shoe types, because she can just sneak warm socks under her tights.  After my brain exploded a little bit, I started thinking that maybe she was on to something.

To me, dresses are always associated with being high effort. Maybe its because I have always been a bit of a tomboy, or at the very least very laid back in my personal style, but I have always put dresses in the “I’m making an effort” category.  However, I had never thought about her point regarding shoes. When I actually thought about it, shoes end up dictating basically the entirety of what I wear in the winter. If I can’t fit wool socks in to a look in colder months, then its not happening, and that’s actually why I end up in leggings more often than not!

Anyways, to get to the point of this post, I think I am going to challenge myself branch out a little bit this winter! While I do love me some leggings and sweaters every day, it sort of puts me in a lazy rut. I think my goal will be to wear something I normally wouldn’t wear in the winter at least twice a week. The creative in me is really excited, and the lazy in me is rolling her eyes.
