I am a person who takes her comfort pretty seriously. You can bet that as soon as I walk through the door of my apartment, that I’m going to shed my street clothes in favor of comfy clothes (generally a big sweater, a pair of leggings, and some wool socks) before I do anything else. Over the last few years, I have tried to make a point of cutting out the things in my closet that aren’t comfortable. Even if I love something, if it’s not comfortable, I tend to just avoid wearing it. There is nothing worst than trying to rock an awesome piece of clothing, and being stuck tugging at it, and squirming around all day. It sucks the joy right out of looking awesome. I can’t even count the amount of times that I’ve fallen in love with some new trendy piece of clothing, thinking that I can just push through the discomfort for the sake of fashion, and just never ever touched it once it gets hung up in my closet. Hence why I have made this a requirement for any new pieces I purchase! If I won’t wear it, then it’s a waste of space and money.

I’ve found myself picking up a lot of pieces like this open poncho over the last year or so. It’s just a little something extra to spice up a plain shirt (in this case, a chambray). I love things like these because I feel like I am making an effort, when I’m really not! You can just throw this over most any shirt, and instantly look a little more put together, while staying super cozy and comfortable!

This particular poncho is from Garage Clothing, and sadly I picked it up last year, so I can’t link to this exact one. I’ve found a couple similar ones though! I just threw it over a chambray, and a pair of black skinny jeans for the day. I, of course added a hat, just to feel a little fancier, and because I seem to have a serious hat problem. With something simple like this, I like to also keep my accessories simple, so I wore this sweet little gold whistle necklace from Otra Vez. It complimented everything perfectly, while still keeping it minimalist. I love this company because they give back to charities that help women. It’s great when shopping becomes a charitable act!

In this look: Here are a couple similar open ponchos to mine option 1, and option 2, chambray is from Old Navy, hat is from Clementine Vintage, boots are by The Frye Company, and my necklace is from Otra Vez, they can also be found here on Instagram!
